adidas Hyperturf “Día de Muertos” release date

Over the past few years, some of the biggest players in the sneaker space have curated Día de Muertos collections alongside dedicated Halloween capsules. To celebrate this year’s “Day of the Dead” event, adidas imagined its Hyperturf in two looks – one inspired by mole, a traditional Mexican dish, and pink sugar skulls.

Past Three Stripes proposals for the cultural event covered several basketball designs in colorful skulls, flowers and other symbols typical of the Nov. 2 holiday. For his adidas Hyperturf, the German sportswear brand – which, like NIKE, Inc. pays more attention to the Latinx consumer – was inspired by foods typically prepared as “ofrendas” at altars for loved ones who have passed through the ‘beyond. The taupe style dons mudguards in a “cazuela” brown hue, with the rest of the upper opting for an understated black arrangement. Zig-zag stitching along the profiles, as well as detailing along the tongue, deviate from their surroundings in a vibrant make-up that nicely complements the embroidered butterfly on the heel.

On the other hand, the option covered in “Vapour Pink” favors a rather uniform look. Accents throughout the upper, however, deviate into a creamy color that offers glow-in-the-dark capabilities. In the right lighting conditions, the cobwebs, floral and other designs typically found on “papel picado” decorations light up throughout the adidas sneaker. The rest of the Hyperturf retains the original trail-ready design that made the model a go-to shoe for fans of the “gorpcore” aesthetic.
