NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane men’s basketball team travels to Costa Rica to work on missions, build team spirit and, of course, play basketball.

During the trip, the team will work with Samaritan’s Feet, a humanitarian relief organization that serves and inspires hops by providing footwear to those in need around the world. They have helped more than 8.7 million people in 109 countries and 530 US cities. Head Coach Ron Hunter is an ambassador for the Samaritan’s Feet organization.

The team will arrive in San Jose on August 6 and immediately head to the gym for a practice. The next day, the team will tour the city before playing their first game of the trip.

On August 8, the team will travel to an elementary school in Tibas de San Jose with Samaritan’s Feet and help distribute shoes to 327 children ages 7-12. This will be the first of two shoe giveaways the team and staff are participating in.

August 9 will be another game day for the green wave, with many newcomers getting game time in the olive and blue for the first time.

On August 10, the team will participate in its second shoe giveaway with Samaritan’s Feet in Concepcion La Union, Barrio San Francisco. They will help 272 children aged 4 to 12. The team will then travel to Playa Herradura to begin team building exercises.

The last two days of the trip will be all about socializing, with an ATV excursion, a BBQ dinner on the beach and a catamaran trip to Herradura Bay off the Gulf of Nicoya before returning home on the 13th.
