Unlimited playtime: Adidas launches self-charging RPT-02 Sol headphones

Adidas continues to expand its wearable offering. The latest headphones from the clothing brand are the RPT-02 Sol, successor to the RPT-01. These are over-ear Bluetooth headphones that don’t have a noise-canceling feature but have great battery life and even possible infinite playtime thanks to its solar-powered charging headband.

  • Adidas’ new in-ear headphones have solar charging capabilities.
  • The RPT-02 Sol headphones do not have noise cancellation, but offer a battery life of up to 80 hours.
  • Adidas says unlimited playback is possible on the RPT-02 Sol.
  • The self-charging headphones are $229 and will be released on August 23.

The Adidas RPT-02 Sol is made through a collaboration with Zound Industries. More than half of the headphones are made from recycled plastic and nylon. Additionally, the headband itself uses Powerfoyle solar charging cells similarly found on Urbanista’s self-charging Phoenix ANC headphones. The interior headband and ear pads are washable while the entire device gets an IPX4 water resistance rating, which is good enough for sweat and splashes.

The self-charging headphones have an impressive 80 hours of battery life on a single charge, but that can be extended using its solar charging headband. More importantly, the RPT-02 Sol can be charged in natural or artificial light. However, Adidas hasn’t specified how many hours are added when you harness the sun’s energy. Either way, the company says unlimited reading is possible with the right light source.

In terms of audio properties, the headphones lack the noise canceling feature. Instead, these come with large dynamic 45mm audio drivers. There’s also Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity paired with an Adidas app. Besides the control button, users can customize the built-in action button on the headset as well as select equalizer presets. Voice assistant is supported but pressing the action button.

The Adidas RPT-02 Sol headphones with solar charging are available in gray or yellow. These will launch on August 23 for $229.
